Equipment

  • Bowl to mix liquids
  • Whisk
  • Tongs
  • Frying pan and burner

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf bread (Challah or Brioche)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon divided
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 4 apples cored, peeled and sliced into wedges
  • ½ cup brown sugar divided

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl whisk the eggs, milk, ground ginger, and ½ tsp cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Add cubed bread to a gallon size zip lock bag and pour in the mixture from step 2 and let it soak for 5 minutes
  • In another mixing bowl add the diced apples sprinkle with ½ tsp cinnamon and ¼ cup sugar brown sugar and mix well.
  • Check the bread to make sure all pieces are getting well soaked
  • Next, spoon the bread mixture inside the baking pan leaving room to top with the apples.  Sprinkle remaining sugar
  • Bake on a center rack for 25-30 minutes. You'll know when it's done because the bread and apples will be golden brown and the egg mixture will no longer be wet.
  • Remove from oven and serve immediately.
  • Top each slice with any remaining sautéed apples and maple syrup.
