If you have been to a recent Saturday class at Cooking With Kids Miami, or if you have “liked” our page on Facebook, you may have noticed something. Cooking With Kids Miami is now referring to itself as the “Real Food Academy”. This is all for a very good reason.
Cooking With Kids Miami has changed it’s name! The ownership is the same. There are no problems and the business will remain virtually the same. So why change the name?
First, the Real Food Academy will soon be expanding into areas outside Miami. Therefore, the name “Cooking With Kids Miami” will obviously not work.. Imagine have a location in New York call Cooking With Kids Miami? Okay, I know what you are thinking; just drop “Miami”. Yes, we considered dropping “Miami” from the name, but that left us with “Cooking With Kids”. Cooking With Kids is a very generic and popular name. It is being used by many other companies in one variation or another. That makes it almost impossible to trademark the name. And the trademark is very important to us at this time as we are in the early stages of Franchising.
Secondly, Cooking With Kids Miami was founded in 2008. At that time, the name was very fitting for the new company. While Chef Maria was always serving up healthy food, her primary focus was not necessarily to teach kids about how to eat healthier; it’s was just the way she cooked. Very early on, Chef Maria noticed the impact she was having on many of her student chefs. Her students began to eat healthier and you know who got very excited about that…..the parents! With that, Chef Maria realized she had an incredible responsibility to affect the way kids ate.
Over time, Chef Maria developed more of a “curriculum” to actually teach her students about making healthier food choices, and at the present time, further updating the curriculum is her #1 priority. With that said, it seems being known as an “Academy” would be much more suitable for the company.
So goodbye Cooking With Kids Miami and hello Real Food Academy!
